Sampson has been a career overachiever. He made Washington State decent and Oklahoma a final four team. That oklahoma team may have won it but they shot really bad against a hot indiana team before maryland won the whole thing. Regardless of talent, Sampson's teams are always great defensive teams.

Correction, he made Wassu more than decent, he took them to the ncaa tournament. Doing that is as impressive as it gets. Dick Bennett has coached there 3-4 years and hasnt even had success yet Bennett won at UW-GB and Wisky.

All that stuff is nice but means absolutely squat. I mean who really remembers a conference championship when its all said and done? Especially if you go out of the NCAA tournament in the 2nd round every year. He may have a better record than Alfrod, but there is nothing that really jumps out to me and says WOW, this guy is really heads above this other guy. A school as big as Oklahoma should have no problem hanging national championship banners every 5-10 years and Sampson has made what? 1 Final 4 appearance?

ummm...Alford did better??

you're not gonna find too many national championship coaches wanting to switch schools

Sampson is a good coach...period...better than Alford

Indiana is a defensive school, always has been and always will be, he fits in well with the style and has recruited the area before

LOL...He took Washington State to the tourney for christs sakes, thats bigger than anything alford has ever done. He took oklahoma to the final 4, thats bigger than anything alford has ever done. What more can you expect, hell the dude won more games in the big 12 than Roy Williams did. You cant tell me oklahoma got better players than kansas, texas, or even oklahoma state either.

Im not taking anything away from Sampson. There is just nothing TO ME, that says that he is the ALL MIGHTY compared to Alfrod. I personally would rather have a hometown boy coaching. Makes things a whole lot easier with the Alums and with recruiting as well.

I think Alfrod would have been a solid choice. I dont think Sampson is a bad choice, but I dont think you can say he is the better pick than Alfrod.

Alford has a long long way to go in his career before he can be in the top tier or even the second tier of coaches in the nation...Sampson is there
